Choruses
Each semester, all undergraduate voice majors, as well as many pianists, composers, guitarists, and members of the greater NEC community, perform in NEC choruses, both a cappella and with orchestral ensembles, exploring world choral music under the direction of Erica J. Washburn, NEC’s Director of Choral Activities.
Chorus Opportunities
Symphonic Choir
The Symphonic Choir offers students and members of the wider NEC community the opportunity to perform music from all styles and periods of choral literature. The choir’s repertoire extends beyond traditional Western masterpieces to include Native American chants, works from Asia and the Middle East, contemporary works, and more. Each year the Symphonic Choir gives several concerts in NEC’s Jordan Hall and the Boston area, performing a cappella and with orchestra.
Chamber Singers
NEC Chamber Singers, also under the direction of Erica J. Washburn, is an auditioned ensemble of 26 to 32 singers that performs challenging works from all style periods, both a cappella and with instruments. This select choir performs several times a year, both in NEC’s famed Jordan Hall and at venues across Boston. In recent years, the ensemble has performed the works of many NEC faculty members and student composers. All students, regardless of major and year, are welcome to audition at the start of the fall semester.
