Congratulations to NEC alumnus Anthony León ’21MM, tenor, on his remarkable achievement in winning first prize in the international Operalia Competition, in Riga, Latvia, alongside Armenian soprano Juliana Grigoryan. At age 25, León was the youngest competitor in the group.

Anthony recently reflected on his time at NEC, “Ask any student what makes NEC special, and you will invariably hear, ‘my teacher.’ Anthony noted this, sharing, “Not only do we get amazing training—perhaps the best training around—but the teachers really care. They’re thinking about you as the artist; you as the artist in training.”

Read more about Anthony and his teacher Bradley Williams, NEC Chair of Voice, in their feature interview in the spring 2022 edition of the NEC Magazine.
