Music Theory Placement
Our Theory courses are full-academic year courses. All students new to the theory program who are interested in enrolling must take a Theory Placement with the Theory Department Chair, Michael Weinstein.
All Theory classes meet on Saturdays. Students whose schedule conflicts with scheduled class times may choose to enroll in private theory lessons. For more information regarding Theory class level structure, please click here.
Theory Placement Exams
All new NEC Prep theory students must take a theory placement exam. Please sign up for the theory placement exam by submitting the form below. No preparation is needed for this exam. Returning students do not need to schedule a placement exam if they are taking the next level approved in their Spring Evaluation. Advancement to the next theory level is determined by the previous year's class performance and final evaluation.
During the school year, rolling admission is strictly at the discretion of the theory faculty.
At NEC Prep we offer a variety of classes and seminars specifically for pianists. Most piano courses are full academic year courses. For course descriptions, please click here. If you need guidance in selecting what to audition for, please do not hesitate to contact the Prep office.
Auditions for piano courses occur in the fall. During the school year, rolling admission is at the discretion of the individual teachers. To inquiry about the possibility of late enrollment, please fill out the form below or contact the Prep office.
