In compliance with the requirements outlined under the 2021 Massachusetts Campus Sexual Assault Law, in the spring 2025 semester, NEC conducted a sexual misconduct survey of students, to better understand our students‘ experiences with incidents of sexual misconduct, their knowledge of institutional response to reports of sexual misconduct, including awareness of available resources on and off campus, relevant training and education they received at NEC, and their experience engaging in bystander education.
Participation in the sexual misconduct survey was voluntary, and survey respondents were able to skip any question they felt did not apply to them or that they felt uncomfortable answering. In order to protect the privacy of survey respondents, NEC did not ask for their names or other identifying information. Survey responses remain completely confidential and were reviewed only in aggregate.
NEC created a Google Forms survey tool using the MA-DPH model survey and administered the survey between April 24, 2025, and July 31, 2025. While this survey year was a good starting point for NEC insofar as the model survey was administered appropriately, the Conservatory hopes to improve response rates when it re-administers the survey in two to four years.
Our Title IX Coordinator, in collaboration with campus partners, will continue to seek ways to better educate our community about NEC’s Title IX Sexual Misconduct Policy and Gender-Based Misconduct Policy, resources available at NEC and in the Boston area, and how to effectively and safely engage in bystander intervention.
