Soprano So Young Park ’12 MM, ’14 AD sang the role of Juliette in the Metropolitan Opera’s final performance of Gounod’s Romeo and Juliette on Saturday, March 30, under the baton of conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin. Park took the leading role after a casting change.

Park was asked to perform as Juliette just two hours before the performance as soprano Nadine Sierra fell ill. Throughout the entire seven-performance run of the opera from March 7 to 27, Park had been on standby as the cover for Juliette.

Park made her Met debut in 2019 as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. She has performed at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, LA Opera, Houston Grand Opera, the Glimmerglass Festival, Michigan Opera Theatre, Opera Colorado, and Boston Lyric Opera, among others.

Following her Met performance, Park will return to Seoul to sing Mahler Symphony No. 4 with the Jeonju Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sung Ki-sun, as part of the 2024 Orchestra Festival at the Seoul Arts Center on April 11.
