Pianist Marc-André Hamelin, a member of NEC’s faculty for the 2021-2022 academic year, recently released a new album, C.P.E. Bach: Sonatas & Rondos. The album is an exploration of the prolific and influential Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, son of Johann Sebastian Bach, and influence on Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.

Hamelin discusses this lesser-known Bach, his thoughts on performing on historical instruments versus the modern piano, and exploring C.P.E. Bach’s repertory in a new interview with David Allen at The New York Times.
