The New England Conservatory-based Merz Trio has been awarded the top prize in the Senior Strings Division of the 46th Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

Merry Peckham, chair of chamber music at NEC, says:

”It's an unusual and wonderful event for a piano trio to win the gold medal at the Fischoff competition—the last time was over ten years ago, when the New Trio took the top prize in 2008.

I'm just so proud that the Merz Trio was honored.”

The Merz Trio (violinist Brigid Coleridge, cellist Julia Yang, and pianist Eric Dionne) are currently in residence in NEC's Professional Piano Trio program, directed by Vivian Hornik Weilerstein.

The New Trio (violinist Andrew Wan, cellist Patrick Jee, and pianist Julio Elizalde) are also alumni of the program.
