Akselrud Competition Prizes

Takes Second and Third Prize in American and Australian competitions.

Congratulations are in order for Elina Akselrud ’14 M.M., former student of Alexander Korsantia. In June, she won second prize in the inaugural Midwest International Piano Competition and Festival, where she took home $5000 in prize winnings.  That event took place at the University of Northern Iowa and will be repeated biennially.

Earlier this month, the 24-year old pianist from Ukraine received third prize in the Australian International Chopin Piano Competition held in Canberra, September 15—21. Organized by the Australian National University School of Music in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Canberra and the Friends of Chopin Australia, this is the second year of the competition, carried out under the artistic direction of Maciej Pawela. Elina was awarded $5,000 donated by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, Canberra.
