Joseph Nizich is a second-year graduate student in choral conducting at the New England Conservatory. He holds bachelor’s degrees in voice performance and choral music education, minoring in choral conducting at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington. In addition to his studies and functioning as a choral assistant for the collegiate ensembles, Joseph was also the conductor of the NEC Prep Tourjée Singers for the 2019-2020 season. Previous to NEC, he was head of the choral department at West Lafayette Jr./Sr. High School in Indiana from 2017-2019, where he directed four choral ensembles, taught general music, and directed school musicals. In addition to conducting, Joseph has a specific interest in vocal pedagogy and acoustic science. He has conducted research about the relationship between spacing, standing position, and perceived choral blend, and works as a voice teacher for NEC’s Voice for Non-Majors course. He has been teaching private voice for six years. Joseph is a student of Erica Washburn.
