Violinist Emil Altschuler has been praised for his virtuosity, expressive musicianship, and distinctive artistry. The Boston Globe described his performances as "top-notch," while The Strad praised his "passion and portamento."
A graduate of The Juilliard School, where he studied with Dorothy DeLay and Naoko Tanaka, and the Yale School of Music, where he studied with Erick Friedman, Emil has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe. He has performed at venues including Lincoln Center, the Aspen Music Festival, and Italy’s Castello di Galeazza, and has collaborated with distinguished artists including Ayke Agus, Bruno Canino, Fred Sherry, and Cho-Liang Lin. He also served as Concertmaster of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra.
An active educator, Emil has taught students of all ages and abilities through college, pre-college, chamber music, and private instruction. In addition to his work with New England Conservatory Expanded Education, he has previously taught at Northeastern University, the Tufts University Community Music Program, and served as Head of Strings for the Festival Youth Orchestra.
Emil is the Founder and Director of the Altschuler Summer Music Institute (ASMI), an international music festival in Italy that brings together students of all ages and levels for intensive study in private lessons, chamber music, orchestra, masterclasses, and performances. The institute has welcomed internationally renowned artists, including Pierre Amoyal, Shlomo Mintz, Cho-Liang Lin, Ayke Agus, Roman Kim, Bruno Canino, and Fred Sherry. Emil continues to maintain an active performing career as a soloist and chamber musician while teaching privately in the Boston area.
