Jazz Faculty Billy Hart Receives 2023 Living Legacy Jazz Award

The legendary jazz drummer was honored by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.

Legendary jazz drummer, bandleader, composer, and NEC jazz faculty member Billy Hart was honored with the 2023 Living Legacy Jazz Award. A program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the Living Legacy Jazz Award honors master artists in the region who are “maintaining the vitality of jazz for future generations through advocacy, mentorship, and the transmission of artistic skill and cultural knowledge.”

Hart will receive his honor during a concert and ceremony at the Kimmel Cultural Campus in Philadelphia on November 2.

Romona Riscoe Benson, Chair of Mid Atlantic Arts, said:

“This is the second year in a row we have honored a truly outstanding drummer with the Living Legacy Jazz Award. Recognized as a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master in 2022, Mr. Hart brings creativity and passion to all of his work — as a musician and performer as well as an educator.”
