Costa Rican-born percussionist Luis Herrera Albertazzi began his studies at the age of twelve with Costa Rican National Symphony Orchestra players, Alejandro Molina Salas and Bismarck Fernández Vásquez.

His education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the National Institute of Music of Costa Rica and both a Master’s degree with Honors and a Graduate Diploma from the New England Conservatory of Music. While at the New England Conservatory of Music, he had the opportunity to study with Boston Symphony Orchestra percussionists Will Hudgins and Daniel Bauch, as well as former percussionist Frank Epstein.

Luis is an active freelancer in the Northeast region, performing regularly with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Boston Ballet Orchestra, and Philadelphia Ballet Orchestra, among others.

As an educator, Luis has attended festivals in Panamá City in conjunction with the Asociación Nacional de Conciertos as a Percussion Instructor. He is currently a faculty member at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, where he works as a Percussion and Hand Drumming Instructor. At Bard College, Luis held a Percussion Fellow position working alongside members of SŌ Percussion, and his most recent engagement places him as a percussionist in The Orchestra Now.
