As a consummate artist, Taiwanese violinist Jean Huang Baverstam is equally passionate about all three career roles: performer, music scholar, and educator.
Taiwanese violinist Jean Huang Baverstam is a consummate artist whose career is equally devoted to three interwoven roles: performer, music scholar, and educator. WBUR-FM noted that they were “left speechless after having the chance to watch and listen to Jean Huang close up.” The Boston Musical Intelligencer said of her Mozart concerto: “Our eyes and ears concentrated on the elegant and outgoing Huang. With both serious attitude and a million-dollar smile, she gave a riveting account of the 28-minute ‘Turkish’ concerto.”
Jean is a founding member of Trio Flamecrest, a string trio formed by Carol Ou (cello) and Amy Galluzzo (violin and viola). The ensemble tours regularly across the United States and recently presented sold-out performances at Chamber Music Raleigh and in Woodstock, Vermont.
Equally comfortable in both chamber music and orchestral settings, Dr. Baverstam serves as Concertmaster of the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra and the Brookline Symphony. Her leadership and artistry have been recognized by prominent music critics, including the Cape Cod Times and the Boston Musical Intelligencer.
Deeply committed to cultivating a shared musical language that connects professional musicians and highly accomplished non-professional performers, Jean’s artistic journey has led to enriching experiences such as residencies at the Chamber Music Conference at Colgate University.
Dr. Baverstam is an adjunct professor at Roger Williams University and serves on the faculty at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and School of Expanded Education. Jean holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance from the New England Conservatory. Her dissertation produced a critical edition of the Poulenc Violin Sonata, which has been widely referenced by prominent performers.
