Summer Orchestra Institute Experience

The Summer Orchestra Institute (SOI) experience emphasizes intensive musical preparation, placing special focus on concentration, practice and performance techniques, interpretation, phrasing, and general musicianship. Students will develop communication and leadership skills through their musical collaborations, learning the joy of music-making while developing lasting friendships. Off-campus trips and evening social activities are scheduled throughout the four-week session.

Program activities include full orchestral rehearsals, private lessons, sectional rehearsals, chamber music reading/coaching sessions, masterclasses, health and wellness seminars, eurythmics and professional development classes, individual practice time, and performance opportunities in NEC’s historic Jordan Hall. In addition, students will have the opportunity to play a side-by-side concert with the Boston Festival Orchestra.

Please note: Students must be 13 years old on July 1, 2024, to participate in the program as an on-campus boarding student.
