“What is African Art Music?” This pre-concert lecture sheds light on the genre’s unique blend of West African and European musical traditions.
The discussion will feature Rev. Dr. John Dankwa of Wesleyan University and the African Choral Ensemble, and Dr. Felicia Sandler of NEC’s Music Theory Department and Director of the Amu Score Project, Inc.
The event will add rich context to the festival’s evening performance from the NEC Chamber Orchestra, directed by Donald Palma, which will play works by Fela Sowande and Samuel Coleridge Taylor.
