Imagine coming into a world where music comes alive, stories leap off the stage, and the audience becomes part of the performance! On May 19th at 7:30PM, NEC Prep’s own Preparatory String Orchestra, led by Marta Zurad, and String Chamber Orchestra, led by Peter Jarvis, invite you and your family to an unforgettable evening designed to spark imagination, laughter, and wonder in listeners of all ages.
Amongst other works, the concert features the playful charm of the Toy Symphony, where the boundary between performer and audience disappears. Young listeners and the young at heart will be invited to join in, shaking rattles, blowing whistles, and adding their own joyful sounds to the music. It’s a rare chance to not just hear an orchestra, but to become part of it, creating a shared experience filled with delight and discovery.
In the second half, settle in for a captivating journey with Peter and the Wolf, brought to life through vivid live narration of Phillip Bermanm and richly expressive music by Prokofiev. With animated storytelling guiding the way, each instrument becomes a character, painting a colorful tale that has enchanted generations. Whether it’s your first time hearing the story or your fiftieth, you’ll find something new to love in its humor, suspense, and heart.
This concert is more than a performance—it’s an invitation to play, to imagine, and to connect. From the youngest listeners to those who proudly carry their childhood wonder into adulthood, all are welcome to share in this joyful celebration of music and storytelling. Bring your family, bring your curiosity, and get ready for a night where music isn’t just heard—it’s experienced.
