NEC Jazz Orchestra: Blues and the Abstract Truth

The NEC Jazz Orchestra will explore the many ways in which the blues are expressed in music for voice and big band. Early, more traditional examples of blues will be featured, including Count Basie’s “Every Day I Have the Blues” and Duke Ellington’s “Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue,” alongside more contemporary blues offshoots, such as Julius Hemphill’s “Hard Blues” and Gil Evans’s “La Nevada.”
