Mi Tango Querido came from a desire to bring the sounds and soul of Buenos Aires to audiences around the world. Through an intimate, non-traditional ensemble, the group honors the legacy of tango's great pioneers while shaping a voice that is distinctly their own.
Featuring Kazuki Tsubakida (Jazz '26) on piano, Liana Logan (Classical '29) on upright bass, Bennet Badeaux (Classical '27) on classical guitar, Jessi Kaufman (Classical '27) on viola, and Rosario Rivas (CMA '26) on voice, Mi Tango Querido reimagines works by legends such as Astor Piazzolla and Carlos Gardel, while influencing each performance with the unique cultural and artistic background of its members.
The ensemble has also been shaped under the guidance of Amir Milstein, faculty member in the Contemporary Musical Arts department at the New England Conservatory, who has brought rich ideas and thoughtful challenges that helped the group discover and develop its distinctive sound.
Mi Tango Querido makes its debut on March 30th at Jordan Hall with Mi Tango Querido: A Journey Through the Seasons, a rich program centered on Piazzolla's Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas (The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires). Following their debut, the group will perform at Rockport Music on April 4th, and continue their mission through community outreach performances, including North Hill Retirement on April 12th.
Mi Tango Querido is about connection between music, culture, and community, bringing listeners a piece of Buenos Aires.
