Brian Kaufman was a 2010 "From the Top" Leadership Grant recipient.

My experience as an NEC Wind Ensemble conducting student was quite simply life changing. In addition to his incredible musical and conducting knowledge, Professor Peltz’s consistent availability beyond class time and efforts to customize the curriculum to help me work through my biggest musical and technical challenges made all the difference in my development as a conductor.

Something unique about the program is the range of music you leave prepared to conduct, which allows for wide range of possibilities upon graduation. I learned how to approach large scale orchestral works to chamber wind pieces spanning from Gabrieli to new compositions.

Between collaborating with my very talented peers across several different ensembles to working alongside all the fantastic NEC faculty and staff, there were countless learning opportunities that helped me to grow musically and personally beyond what I imagined. My experiences and training at NEC were no doubt the catalyst for me to receive my current university position running a wind ensemble and teaching conducting.

Brian Kaufman completed New England Conservatory's Master of Music degree in Wind Ensemble Conducting in 2010.

He is currently head of the wind ensemble at University of Maryland Baltimore County.
