Pianist and NEC Concert Artist Yunchan Lim’s ’26 AD recording of Chopin’s Études was included on the Boston Globe’s list of “the 10 best classical albums of 2024.” The Globe praised Lim’s “performances of great thoughtfulness and inspiration” and said “his future brims with possibilities.”

Lim’s recording, which was released on Decca Classics in April, was the most popular album of 2024 on Apple Music Classical. Lim, who studies with Minsoo Sohn ’99, ’01 GD, ’04 AD in  NEC’s newly launched Institute for Concert Artists, is an Apple Music Classical Artist Ambassador.

Lim received the Diapason d’Or de L’année award in the Young Talent category from the French magazine Diapason for the album. Lim’s Chopin recording also won in the piano category of Gramaphone’s Classical Music Awards, where Lim was recognized as Young Artist of the Year.

In 2022, Lim became the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at age 18. He made his Boston Symphony Orchestra and Carnegie Hall debuts in February 2024.
