Students from NEC’s violin studios had an opportunity earlier this week to perform for the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s new concertmaster, Nathan Cole, who is in his first season with the ensemble.

The master class featured performances of works by Mozart, Shostakovich, and Korngold by violinists Ravani Loushy Kay ’25, Jisoo Kim ’25 MM, and Eleanor Markey ’25, respectively, with pianists Yali Levy Schwartz ’25, Dina Vainshtein ’04 GD, and Yandi Chen ’25 DMA.

Cole previously served as first associate concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and has been a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. A sought-after pedagogue, Cole has served on the faculty of the Colburn Conservatory of Music and has a robust online presence through which he teaches musicians around the world.

The master class was made possible through the generous support of the Richard P. and Claire W. Morse Visiting Artist Fund.
