NEC Prep’s CHIPS Collaborates with Music for Food

New England Conservatory Preparatory School’s Chamber Music Intensive Performance Seminar (CHIPS) is joining forces with Music for Food beginning this spring.

Music for Food is a musician-led initiative founded by violist Kim Kashkashian in 2010. Through performances, the organization raises donations for groups addressing food insecurity in their local communities. Over the past 15 years, the Boston chapter of Music for Food has brought together artists and students across the city to present concerts that both raise awareness and provide direct support for organizations combating hunger. CHIPS students will now have the opportunity to contribute to this mission through their own performances.

CHIPS has selected the Boston-based organization Food for Free as its beneficiary. In the coming weeks, CHIPS students will meet with representatives from Food for Free to learn more about their work addressing food insecurity across Greater Boston.

The first CHIPS Music for Food concert will take place on April 19 at Carriage House Violins in Newton. Details about seating and how to donate to Food for Free will be shared soon.

Additional CHIPS Music for Food concerts are planned throughout the 2026–27 school year. The series will encourage young musicians to use their artistry in the service of their communities and to experience the powerful role music can play beyond the concert hall.
