Classic FM has named internationally awarded solo violinist Nathan Amaral ’24 GC on its list of “30 young musicians reshaping classical music.”

The musicians chosen “come armed with incredible technique, creativity and musicality, and are already drawing millions to their music,” reads the article on Classic FM’s website. Amaral has proven himself a masterful young musician, winning first prize at the 27th Sphinx Competition Senior Division earlier this year.

“Still in disbelief, but looking forward to incredible projects that I will be able to share with all of you this year,” Amaral said in his announcement on Instagram. “Thank you once again for the nomination @classicfm and @deccarecords.

“Born and raised in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro where opportunities for young people are scarce, 12-year-old Nathan Amaral received a visit from a stranger one day that changed his life,” reads Classic FM’s article. “The person at the door simply asked him, ‘Would you like to play the violin?’ There began a journey in music that led to him just recently to being awarded with the Paul Roczek award at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.”

Amaral studies with faculty member Donald Weilerstein at NEC. He recently released his debut album and has collaborated with world-renowned musicians, including violinist Hilary Hahn, Tabea Zimmermann, and Yura Lee. He has performed in venues such as Wigmore Hall, South Bank Centre, Berlin Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Dortmund, and Großer Saal Mozarteum.
