Chorus Pro Musica Presents: Haydn's "The Seasons"
Chorus pro Musica presents Joseph Haydn's final and most beloved choral masterpiece—The Seasons, a sweeping oratorio that traces the rhythms of rural life through the turning of the year. Composed between 1799 and 1801 and premiered to immediate acclaim, The Seasons stands alongside Haydn's The Creation as one of the towering achievements of the Classical choral repertoire, and is widely credited as an inspiration for Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony.

Drawing on texts adapted from James Thomson's celebrated poem of the same name, The Seasons moves through Spring's awakening, Summer's heat and storms, Autumn's harvest celebrations and rousing hunt, and Winter's quiet reflection — painting vivid musical pictures of nature, community, and the cycles of human life. The work's extraordinary range encompasses moments of breathtaking drama, earthy humor, and profound tenderness, including the famous "tipsy fugue" of the Autumn section that has delighted audiences for more than two centuries.

Led by Artistic Director Jamie Kirsch, this performance features 100 voices joined by a 48-piece professional orchestra, with soloists Carley DeFranco, Jesse Blumberg, and Lawrence Jones. Performed in the legendary acoustic of Jordan Hall at New England Conservatory — a National Historic Landmark celebrated for its warm, intimate sound — this is a rare opportunity to experience one of Haydn's greatest works on an appropriately grand scale.
