Formed in Fall 2025 at New England Conservatory, the Auréya Quartet takes its name from a word meaning golden and warmth, a quality the ensemble embraced early on while preparing Haydn’s Op. 76/4 “Sunrise” Quartet. A winner of the NEC Honors Ensemble Competition in Fall 2025, the quartet holds residencies with the Virginia Arts Festival (Norfolk, CT) and L’Atelier Musical (New Baltimore, NY). Auréya has collaborated with composers including Ethan Iverson, performing his composition at NEC’s Schuller Festival, and Ian Yoo Kim, premiering his String Quartet in F Minor in Jordan Hall. The quartet has also played in masterclasses for distinguished musicians such as Carlos Simon, Laurie Smukler, and Kim Kashkashian.
The Auréya Quartet is dedicated to programming and performing music that welcomes listeners from every background and level of familiarity with chamber music. The ensemble aims to present concerts that are inviting, compelling, and meaningful, while also pursuing projects rooted in community engagement. Musically, Auréya thrives on shared ambition, uniting rehearsal with a culture of mutual support as the quartet pursues bold artistic goals together.
