Summer Vocal Institute

August 2–15, 2026
At the Summer Vocal Institute (SVI), singers ages 13–18 explore and refine their developing voices through intensive study and performance.
Participants refine their technical and interpretive skills across genres including operetta, musical theater, and art song, while gaining insights into musical preparation, acting, vocal health, and general musicianship. Collaboration with peers and faculty fosters confidence, artistry, and lasting connections within the vocal arts community.

How to Apply
Eligibility
The Summer Vocal Institute welcomes singers ages 13–18 eager to grow as musicians and performers. Guided by expert faculty, students refine their technique, expand their artistry, and gain insight into the path ahead — whether preparing for college-level study or simply exploring the joy of singing in a supportive environment.
Application Requirements
To apply to the Summer Vocal Institute, please complete the online application with the following materials.
- Performance resume or details of any past experience with music or theater performances
- Indicate your voice type: soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone, bass, counter-tenor
- A brief written statement about your interest in joining the program
- Please include details about any voice lessons you’re taking currently (and the name of your teacher) or if you are new to voice lessons.
- One video recording featuring:
- One complete art song or musical theater piece with live or recorded accompaniment
- Live performance videos must include the date of the performance
Please note that a $50 fee is required for each application.

Participants in the program have the option to either stay on NEC’s Boston campus during the duration of the program or commute to campus each day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.
