NEC Prep: Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Concert
Join us for a performance by the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Juliano Aniceto, of George Gershwin’s An American in Paris, two pieces by Scott Joplin (The Cascades and The Entertainer) that were transcribed by Gunther Schuller, Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto with 2023–2024 Prep Concerto Competition winner Seokyoung Hong, and James P. Johnson’s Victory Stride.

Aniceto, conductor of the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and director of orchestras at New England Conservatory Preparatory School, said the works by the three American composers on the program “are connected, to a certain extent, to jazz,” an American art form, and that the program as a whole reflects a more global perspective.

The concert marks the start of NEC Prep’s yearlong celebration of its 75th anniversary and pays tribute, Aniceto said, to “the impact of a powerful arts institution.”

This celebratory performance which will be preceded by a reception at 6 p.m. in the Keller Room, where members of the community can learn more about NEC Prep.
