Concert Hall Accessibility

Accessibility Details

Select from the list of halls below for more details about accessibility and access.

  • Our elevator is located to the left of the front doors in the Jordan Hall Building.
  • To call the elevator, hit the “Call for Assistance” button located on the lower right hand side before hitting the “up” button on the elevator.
  • Tickets must be scanned by ushers on the first floor before heading into the hall or the second floor balcony.
  • To enter the balcony from the elevator, ride the elevator to the second floor. Exit the elevator to your right. The door to the balcony is through the double doors on the left side.
  • The balcony is only ADA accessible from the elevator.
  • There is no bathroom on the second floor. Bathrooms are located down on the first floor and inside the theatre.
  • The Plimpton Shattuck Black Box Theatre is located on the lower level of the Student Life and Performance Center building (SLPC).
  • The elevator is located to the left of the NEC promotional screen when you enter the SLPC. If an usher is at the entrance, please feel free to ask them for assistance with accessing the venue.
  • Take the elevator on the right down to the “G” level. Make sure the elevator is going down to avoid traveling upward to the residence hall.
  • Restrooms are accessible on the “G” level outside of the theatre.
  • There are four stairs from the lobby to the entrance of the theatre. If necessary, you can ask front of house staff for elevator access to bypass these stairs.

This hall is not accessible via elevator.

  • Burnes Hall is located on the second floor of the Student Life and Performance Center building (SLPC).
  • The elevator is located to the left of the NEC promotional screen when you enter the SLPC. If an usher is at the entrance, please feel free to ask them for assistance with accessing the venue.
  • Take the elevator to the second floor and exit left. The hall is located behind the elevator vestibule — down the hall on the right side.
  • Williams Hall is located in the Jordan Hall building. Elevators are located to the left of the front doors of the building.
  • To call the elevator, hit the “Call for Assistance” button located on the lower right before hitting the “up” button on the elevator.
  • Tickets must be scanned by ushers on the first floor before heading into the hall.
  • While the main seating area of Williams Hall is ADA accessible, the balcony area is not.
  • The balcony can be accessed by taking the elevator to the second floor. Exit the elevator to the left and follow the hallway to the end of the hall. Please note that there are five steps down to the Williams balcony.
  • The Eben Jordan Ensemble Room is located on the second floor of the Student Life and Performance Center building (SLPC).
  • The elevator is located to the left of the NEC promotional screen when you enter the SLPC. If an usher is at the entrance, please feel free to ask them for assistance with accessing the venue.
  • Take the elevator to the second floor and exit left into the lobby. The Eben Jordan Ensemble Room is located on the the left side of the lobby.
  • Pierce Hall is located on the first floor of the St. Botolph Building, adjoined to the Student Life and Performance Center building (SLPC).
  • The elevator is located to the left of the NEC promotional screen when you enter the SLPC. If an usher is at the entrance, please feel free to ask them for assistance with accessing the venue.
  • Take the elevator to the second floor and exit left into the lobby. Walk down the hallway past Burnes Hall on your right until you reach a second elevator on your left.
  • Take this elevator down to the first floor. Pierce Hall is located directly across from the elevator.
  • Our elevator is located to the left of the front doors in the Jordan Hall Building.
  • To call the elevator, hit the “Call for Assistance” button located on the lower right hand side before hitting the “up” button on the elevator.
  • Take a right out of the elevator, and walk down the main corridor. The Keller Room will be located on your right and is fully ADA accessible.

Listening Assist

New England Conservatory offers listening assist devices in Jordan Hall, The Pimpton Shattuck Blackbox Theatre, Burnes Hall, Williams Hall, and the Eben Jordan Ensemble Room. To borrow a device, ask any member of NEC’s front of house staff. They will ask for your ID and return it to you upon returning the device after the performance.

Instructions for Jordan Hall and Williams Hall

Visitors to Jordan Hall and Williams Hall can either borrow a device or use their personal mobile device to access listening assist.

For borrowed device:

  • Ask any member of NEC’s front of house staff. They will ask for your ID and return it to you upon returning the device after the performance.
  • If the device is powered off, hold the long button on the right side of the device until it powers on.
  • Once the device is powered on, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to unlock.
  • Select the “Mobile Connect” app on the home screen.
  • Select the hall in which you want to listen.
  • Make sure the headphones are connected to the device.
  • Press the “Listen” button in the app.
  • Adjust levels accordingly using the blue icon and volume slider.

For your own device:

  • Using your mobile device, follow this link to download the Seinheiser MobileConnect app from the app store (available for Apple and Android devices).
  • Connect to “NEC Guest Wifi” with password necwifiguest.
  • Follow the same instructions above for a borrowed device.

Visitors to these halls can request a listening assist device from front of house staff, who will provide instructions depending on the device model.
