Sarame Raynolds

Sarame Raynolds (also known as Sara May Raynolds, Sara Mae Raynolds, or Sara Rainoldi) grew up in Las Vegas, New Mexico, daughter of Joshua Raynolds. As a young girl she was sent to Boston to study voice at New England Conservatory with renowned teacher, William Whitney.

She was at NEC for about four years, 1902-1906. Raynolds then went on to study in Europe, first in Paris and then in Italy. She performed leading roles in various cities in Italy. Her American debut took place in 1915 in Los Angeles where she played the part of the Queen of Spain in Ruy Blas by Meyer Lutz.

This collection is organized into four series:

The first series consists of newspaper clippings, articles, brochures etc. about Sarame Raynolds. The second series includes items mostly relevant to Raynolds’ time at NEC, such as a copy of her class card, programs, and correspondence. The third series consists of photographs, mostly press and production photos and a small number of candids.  The last series just includes two opera scores published by Ricordi that were owned by Raynolds.
