At New England Conservatory, the Academic and International Student Advisors provide academic and immigration counseling for students enrolled in the Undergraduate Diploma, Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Graduate Diploma programs. They help students select courses, meet educational and career goals, remedy academic difficulties, and better understand NEC's purposes and policies.  In addition they assist students with I-20s, student visas, curricular practical training and optional practical training.

The Dean of Students provides academic advising for the doctoral students and the Assistant Dean of Students provides immigration advising for the doctoral students.

Joy advises students in the following majors: chamber music, conducting, contemporary improvisation, guitar, jazz studies, strings.
