Donor generosity has allowed NEC to transform a neglected recital hall in NEC's St. Botolph building into Harold Whitworth Pierce Hall: a new, state-of-the-art performance space that also serves as NEC's first dedicated teleconferencing room, used by the NEC boards and administration.

Natural wood floors and punchy but functional wall graphics accentuate the room's superb acoustics, flexible seating and lighting layouts, and multimedia presentation capabilities.

Concertgoers are getting to know this room as home to the Pierce Jazz Series—early evening sets by NEC's student jazz ensembles—as well as chamber music and solo recitals.

Near the end of each semester, Pierce Hall's bookings lean heavily to jazz and Contemporary Improvisation, with ensemble performances and student graduation recitals virtually every day. You can see one example in the video clip on this page, from Alex Chaloff's senior recital. Alex, a drummer, is a member of Boston's extensive Chaloff musical dynasty. For this recital, he recruited a full orchestra with vocalist.
