Great artists give free concerts at New England Conservatory—simply because they teach here.
Violinist Lucy Chapman gives a recital with pianist Jane Coop. For Gabriel Fauré's piano quartet, they are joined by two of Chapman's NEC faculty colleagues, cellist Natasha Brofsky and violist Roger Tapping.
Chapman is chair of NEC's strings department and former chair of chamber music at NEC; Tapping is current chamber music chair and Brofsky is assistant chair of strings. All three are regular participants in First Monday at Jordan Hall concerts. Tonight's concert provides another opportunity to experience chamber music with strings at the highest level, as it's being taught to the next generation!

Lucy Chapman reports in Facebook: "I just got home from a wonderful recital given by Don and Vivian Weilerstein. Now it's time to focus on my recital tomorrow night. After thirteen years of teaching at NEC, I'm finally giving a concert that I planned myself. The program is just like me—short, passionate, and full of unexpected twists and turns."
