Violinist Julia McKenzie performs with numerous Boston area ensembles including grammy-nominated Boston Baroque (on Telarc Records), the Handel & Haydn Society, Cantata Singers, Foundling Baroque Orchestra & Women's Advocacy Project, and the multi-media group "Melodic Vision." She has worked with baroque violinists Simon Standish and Manfredo Kremer at early music summer festivals, and has performed in early music festivals in Mexico City, Regensburg, Indianapolis and Boston.
McKenzie has traveled to Warsaw, Krakow, Los Angeles, the Ravinia Festival and Tanglewood with Boston Baroque and to London with Handel & Haydn for a performance at the BBC PROMS in Royal Albert Hall. A dedicated teacher, McKenzie has coached student ensembles in the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, and has conducted Baroque and Classical lecture-demonstrations at Roger Williams University. Also a consultant of violins, McKenzie is employed by Johnson String Instrument.
Studies at New England Conservatory, Aspen Music School, UC Irvine; principal teachers and coaches include Paul Kantor, Joyce Robbins, Eugene Lehner, Robert Kopf, Brian Dembow, baroque violin with Dana Maiben.
