Language Resource Center
NEC recognizes the inherently multilingual nature of music and professional music-making and is therefore committed to making language instruction in French, German, and Italian available to all students.
To support our students’ unique personal and professional goals, we have created the NEC Language Resource Center, where students can maintain and practice skills in the foreign languages they have acquired in the classroom or abroad.
NEC’s Language Resource Center provides FREE language services in French, German, and Italian, which include:
- Language tutoring (grammar and conversation skills)
- Assistance with linguistic aspects of repertoire (e.g., translations, pronunciation)
- Language skills assessments for Fulbright and other scholarship applications
- Assistance with foreign language applications to programs abroad
- Support for the practical elements of travel and careers abroad, i.e., interviews and cultural expectations
Students can schedule individual or group appointments as needed or regularly (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.). The Language Resource Center faculty members coordinate with students to develop a program of study that would best realize their goals.
The center also welcomes faculty and staff interested in cultivating, maintaining, or expanding their knowledge of French, German, and Italian.
Beyond language services, the LRC seeks to enrich our students’ academic lives with cultural events such as film screenings, language cafés, museum trips, and more.
