Whitney Robinson ’20 AD debuts with Odyssey Opera via NEC joint Artist Diploma/Apprentice Program
Whitney Robinson ’20 AD appeared to excellent reviews in Odyssey Opera's recent production of Gounod's Le médecin malgré lui. Robinson is the first student to be accepted into New England Conservatory and Odyssey Opera's new joint Artist Diploma/Apprentice Program, which launched this fall. A major feature of the apprenticeship is the opportunity for an Artist Diploma student to be cast in a secondary role in an Odyssey Opera production each season.
Whitney had this to share about her experience:
”I thoroughly enjoyed working with Odyssey Opera on Le médecin malgré lui by Gounod! It was a crazy fun and high energy production that was full of life.
The rarely heard Satie recitatives presented an interesting challenge for everyone involved, but really ended up enhancing the character of the piece. It was such an amazing opportunity to bring a show that is not very well known back to the stage. The fantastic cast, orchestra, production team and Odyssey staff made it a memorable experience, for which I am truly grateful.”
Reviews for Whitney Robinson's Odyssey Opera debut:
”Whitney Robinson made memorable company debuts as the tricky nursemaid Jacqueline and Sganarelle’s indomitable wife Martine, respectively.”
”Robinson has a strong mezzo soprano that works well in battle with her husband.”
”[Whitney Robinson's] athletic fighting with her husband was imaginative and funny.”
