Undergraduate and Preparatory School pianists take prizes at Bösendorfer and Yamaha competition

Undergraduate Yongqiu Liu ’22 and Preparatory School student Katherine E. Liu earned prizes at the ninth Bösendorfer and Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition

Yamaha Senior and Junior winners Yangrui Cai, Catherine Huang, Yongqiu Liu, Ruisi Lao, Kevin Cho and Katherine Liu

The ninth Bösendorfer and Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition was held January 13-20 at the Arizona State University (ASU) School of Music.

Yongqiu Liu ’22 won the silver medal and a $2000 prize in the Yamaha Senior Competition for pianists aged 16 through 18. Liu is a first year Bachelor of Music student who studies with Wha Kyung Byun.

In the Yamaha Junior Competition for pianists aged 13 to 15, Katherine E. Liu, who studies with HaeSun Paik through the NEC Preparatory School, received the bronze medal and the $1,000 Linda and Sherman Saperstein Award.
