Peter Jonatan is a composer, arranger, orchestrator, conductor, and pianist specializing in jazz composition. He was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia. In 2009 he moved to Boston to pursue music.

Peter excels in various genres like jazz, pop, gospel, classical, and Latin. His orchestral works had been performed by Hollywood musicians, City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Scoring Orchestra, Lake Street Dive with NEC Jazz Orchestra, and Philharmonia Strings.

He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies from New England Conservatory (2020) after earning his Master of Music in Jazz Studies from New England Conservatory (2014) and Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music (2011). He also held a Bachelor of Engineering (Materials) degree from Nanyang Technological University (2006).

He had studied under Ken Schaphorst, Ben Schwendener, John Hollenbeck, and Greg Hopkins for jazz composition; Frank Carlberg, Jerry Bergonzi, Jeff Covell, Ross Ramsay, and Russell Hoffmann for jazz piano; and John Mallia for classical composition. His piece also has been chosen to be reviewed by Maria Schneider, Dave Holland, and Darcy James Argue.

Besides teaching at NEC, Peter is also a faculty at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches Ear Training, and Tonal Harmony & Composition.
