2:00 - Harmonic Time with Jerry Leake
"Harmonic Time" is a body and language-based method that immerses musicians in world rhythm systems without requiring traditional drums. HT integrates musical time, groove, and mathematics into the entire body, enabling participants to "feel" how parts combine rather than just "think" them. The method incorporates side-to-side stepping, counter sticking patterns, and spoken drum syllables and songs from Africa and India. This language-based approach allows practitioners to develop rhythm skills away from their instruments, enhancing short and long-term memory while fostering coordination and independence.

3:00 - Art Rock Workshop with Lautaro Mantilla
This workshop is an introduction to the diverse repertoire of underground music starting in the 1970s to the present day. By playing different riffs and experimenting with group-sound exercises, students gain knowledge of different compositional and improvisational approaches and explore the sonority and power of this repertoire. No previous experience required.

4:00 - Klezmer Workshop with Hankus Netsky
In this workshop you’ll learn a bit about the history of Eastern European Jewish music while jumping right into playing a tune. All instruments are welcome, including your voice!

5:00 - Warren Senders - Intro to Hindustani Music
Hindustani music is one of the world’s great improvisational genres. The repertoire of ragas (melodic forms) and talas (rhythmic cycles) combine to create a musical environment full of expressive potential. This workshop will provide an introduction to some of the music’s basic structures, with plenty of opportunities to sing, play, and create inside this rich dronal environment.

6:00 - Steve Netsky - Songwriters Workshop
Get a taste of our Songwriters Workshop experience. During our weekly meetings, students play songs they are working on. The group shares their impressions of the songs, along with positive suggestions and feedback. During the semester, each student works on at least a couple of songs and also arranges one of them to play at the ensemble's concert.

9/8 (Sunday) Open Mic: CMA Students (and Friends) 7 - 10pm in EJ
Students from the Contemporary Musical Arts Department share their music in live solo and small ensemble performances, in genres ranging from folk to rock to jazz to avant garde, from many corners of the globe. Open to the public
