Education and Training

BM, Oberlin Conservatory; MM, Mannes College of Music. Mark attended the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Henry Mancini Institute at UCLA. He has studied jazz trumpet with John McNeil and Jason Palmer, and classical trumpet with Vincent Penzarella, Jack Sutte, Ryan Anthony, Michael Davison, Roy Poper, and Betty Barber Rines. Mark is currently pursuing his DMA in Jazz Performance at NEC, where he is a Teaching Fellow.

In addition to teaching jazz trumpet lessons through NEC Prep, Mark also teaches trumpet, jazz, and composition/arranging lessons remotely through the University of Maine. He has performed with such artists as Dave Holland, Maria Schneider, Ray Barretto, Dave Liebman, Anna Webber, Quincy Jones, Christian McBride, Peter Erskine, Wycliffe Gordon, Kresten Osgood, and others. He leads Les Sorciers Perdus, an ensemble that specializes in performing his original jazz compositions, contemporary chamber works, multi-disciplinary installations, and silent film scores. Mark lives in Jamaica Plain with his wife and their two energetic cats. When not playing trumpet, composing, or teaching, Mark enjoys trail running, hiking, reading, meditating, collecting vinyl, and cultivating community.
