Contralto Elizabeth Anker sings Baroque oratorio, art songs, new music,
opera, and a variety of non-classical songs. She is the delighted to have had
several song cycles and an opera written for her and the Mockingbird Trio.
Other notable performances include a John Adams premiere with the San
Francisco Symphony; Messiah performances with Philharmonia Baroque and
Handel and Haydn; Bach festivals in the US and France, many recordings and
tours with the Boston Camerata and Magnificat Baroque.


Elizabeth has been on the NEC faculty since 1991, enjoying teaching adult
students and offering classes on performance styles of Bach, Handel and
others. She taught at the Longy School of Music for 27 years, and founded two
choirs for older adults which gave her an opportunity to have a third act as a
conductor.


A native of California, she studied in San Francisco and in Europe before
moving to Boston. Her principal teachers have included Robert Honeysucker,
Edward Zambara, Jessica Cash, James Schwabacher and Lillian Loran.
