NEC Jazz ensemble performs at Opening Our Doors Festival
On Monday, October 9, a talented ensemble of New England Conservatory Jazz Studies undergraduates performed on the Jordan Hall steps as part of the Fenway Alliance's "Opening Our Doors" festival, bringing live jazz to Bostonians during the city's largest free cultural event.
Coretta Scott King
New England Conservatory will pay tribute to alumna Coretta Scott King on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of her graduation from the Conservatory with a special concert, “Embracing Coretta,” on Monday, October 30th at 7:30pm in Jordan Hall. Supported by NEC’s Office of Cultural Equity and Belonging and Embrace Boston, the evening will feature a rich diversity of art songs and spiritual arrangements.

The highly anticipated video game Assassin's Creed: Mirage was released Thursday, October 5, with a score orchestrated by NEC alum and current Contemporary Musical Arts faculty member Akram Haddad '22 GD.

Violinist and NEC alumna Geneva Lewis ’20, ’22 AD will perform with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and conductor Gustavo Dudamel for its annual gala concert on October 5.

Russell Sherman
With profound sadness, New England Conservatory mourns the passing of Russell Sherman, who died peacefully in his home at noon on September 30, 2023. A legendary artist, teacher, and humanitarian, Russell Sherman leaves an irreplaceable void. The entire NEC community extends warm thoughts and condolences to Wha Kyung Byun, and to the many students whose lives and music he deepened.

Yangfan Xu
This summer, the New Jersey Symphony premiered "Bya," a work by NEC Composition doctoral student Yangfan Xu ’25 DMA. Soon, "Bya" will make its Australian debut, where the Sydney Contemporary Orchestra will perform the piece in October. Yangfan shares her creative process behind the Tibetan-inspired "Bya," her journey into the world of music, and how NEC's mentorship program helped her compositions reach the stages of major orchestras.
