What was your first impression of NEC? How has that changed since you’ve been here?

At first, it was quite overwhelming, but in a good sense. There were so many amazing opportunities. Now, things have settled and I’m more familiar with it but I still think NEC is a great place to explore your inner musicianship.

Tell me about your musical backstory…what got you to where you are today?

I’m originally from Germany. My parents aren’t musical but I have two older sisters, one who played the violin and one who played the piano. I got into music through them. Through concerts and competitions, I got more into music and decided why not try and go into it more seriously?

Who has been your favorite teacher? Why?

My violin teacher, Don Weilerstein. He is such a kind person and always inspires you. He is very patient and selfless in the way he teachers and encourages you to surpass your former self.

What makes NEC unique? Why did you choose here over other schools?

I have found many great friends here. The community is something very special. The extremely high level you’re surrounded by, the amazing level of the teachers – these are things you can’t find anywhere else.

What is the biggest challenge you’re proud to have overcome here?

Adjusting to college life. Learning to manage my schedule and balance practice, study, and spare time.

What advice would you give to incoming students?

Experience things yourself and make your own opinions on things. Don’t be frustrated if something doesn’t work out the way you thought it would. Be open towards new and different challenges.

NEC is a great place to explore your inner musicianship.
