Ivani String Quartet Takes Bronze Medal at Fischoff

This is the group's second competition prize in the space of a month.

The Ivani String Quartet has taken the bronze medal at the world-renowned 44th Annual Fischoff Competition, held May 12–14 at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. The Fischoff National Chamber Music Association sponsors the nation's largest chamber music competition, and is America’s premier educational chamber music competition.

Consisting entirely of undergraduates, members of the Ivani String Quartet are Sophia Szokolay '19 and Abigail Hong '19, violin; Aria Cheregosha '18, viola; and Annette Jakovcic '19, cello. Paul Katz is their faculty coach. Their bronze medal includes a $2,000 cash prize (endowed by The Barbara Shields Byrum Fund).

Just a month previously, the Ivani String Quartet took First Prize at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition. More about this

Committed to music education, the Fischoff uniquely partners with competition alumni to bring free, innovative music programs directly to children in their own schools and community centers. Known as the Fischoff Arts-in-Education Residency, these programs have served 68,000 community children since 1995 and reach more than 2,500 underserved and at-risk children each year. Additionally, Fischoff offers several programs to support and encourage area high school-aged musicians.
