NEC Celebrates Coretta Scott King: Continuation of a Dream

As NEC looks to the future, we draw inspiration from the legacy of alumna Coretta Scott King ’54, ’71 hon. DM and her longstanding efforts as a leader in diversity, inclusion, and equality.

Thursday, February 21

NEC’s Black Student Union (BSU) presents this multi-disciplinary concert featuring poetry, dance, music, and remarks from BSU president Robyn Smith ’19. The concert will feature:

• NEC Gospel Ensemble
• NEC Contemporary Ensemble
• NEC West African Ensemble
• Daon Drisdom ’20, baritone soloist
• David Norville ’20, poetry
• Darynn Dean ’19 and Evan Wright ’20, voice
• Ashe Gordon ’08 and Des Polk, viola & dance

Additional series programming:

The BSU has curated and produced a month of concerts inspired by Coretta Scott King’s 1971 Commencement speech calling on NEC graduates to continue the work. Through the “Continuation of a Dream” concert series, the BSU aims to celebrate a diverse range of musical styles and give back to the community through a side-by-side partnership with the Roxbury Youth Orchestra.
