"The Teaching of Bob Brookmeyer" Panel Discussion

| New England Conservatory: Brown Hall

This Panel discussion will feature former students of Bob Brookmeyer, who taught at NEC from 1997 to 2007 and created NEC's Jazz Composers' Workshop Orchestra. It will include alums Darcy James Argue, Ayn Inserto, Brian Landrus, Mehmet Sanlikol and Nicholas Urie.

Trombonist, pianist, composer, arranger Bob Brookmeyer was one of the most influential big band writers of the 20th century. His music and teachings inspired a generation of jazz composers, including the likes of Maria Schneider and NEC alumnus Darcy James Argue '02 M.M., whose 150th Anniversary commission will be performed the following night as part of this celebration of Brookmeyer.

Welcome to NEC at 150! Every generation of musicians remake and change New England Conservatory. Some, like Gunther Schuller, continue to influence our music beyond their lifetimes. Others contribute for decades, pushing the sense of what's possible by their own examples. The entire season is stuffed with chances to see the NEC legacy in exceptional, infectious, passionate action. Don't miss them!

The NEC150 commissions:
