To be eligible for Federal Work-Study (FWS) funding, a student must:

  • file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • be a United States citizen or a permanent resident. International students are not eligible for Work-Study (but may be eligible to work in NEC's Student Aide program)
  • be enrolled at NEC at least half-time*
  • demonstrate financial need, as determined by the federal government's calculations in the FAFSA
  • maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress

Students who complete the Financial Aid application process are considered for FWS when their files are reviewed. Students deemed eligible have an FWS award as part of their Financial Aid package. The dollar amount of the award is the earnings ceiling for the period the award was made.

Students who did not apply for financial assistance or who did not receive a FWS award as part of their package are not eligible to work under the FWS program.

*Note: NEC/Tufts and NEC/Harvard double-degree candidates may not be hired as FWS workers at NEC, even if they have been awarded FWS funding by Tufts or Harvard University
