An Exhilaration of
Chamber Music
A flight of performances.
A richness of artists.
In December, April, and May, New England Conservatory fills the air with the sounds of piano trios, string quartets, and more, both day and night. Performers include NEC's faculty of chamber music superstars, and the students coached by these great artists.
Trio Cleonice, the current ensemble in NEC's Professional Piano Trio Training Program, gives a recital in Pierce Hall. Composed of violinist Ari Isaacman-Beck, pianist Emely Phelps, and cellist Gwen Krosnick, the Trio was founded in 2008 at the Kneisel Hall chamber music festival and is coached at NEC by pianist Vivian Hornik Weilerstein. The group takes its name from the restaurant Cleonice in Ellsworth, Maine. Not surprisingly, the players derive perhaps equal pleasure from music, fine dining and cooking. They perform with great joie de vivre. The title of their blog says it all—“Grilled Octopus and the Archduke.”
