Great artists give free concerts at New England Conservatory—simply because they teach here.

NEC trombone instructor Toby Oft will perform with piano accompaniment by Ling Leng. Tonight's recital will feature a vocal transcription of all four songs comprising Alban Berg's 4 Lieder, Op. 2. The program will also include works whose origins span almost three centuries from composers Frank Martin, Leopold Mozart, and Henri Tomasi.

Oft was appointed principal trombone of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in September 2008; he occupies the J.P. and Mary B. Barger chair at the BSO.

The Program:

Martin: Ballade

Leopold Mozart: Concerto

Berg: 4 Lieder, Op. 2

Tomasi: Concerto
