Lawrence Berman, Norma Jean Calderwood Senior Curator of Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, joins a 10-piece ensemble of New England Conservatory students and faculty under the direction of NEC jazz studies chair Ken Schaphorst, in this unique celebration of the Sun Ra centenary.

Sun Ra was one of the most influential big-band leaders and experimental jazz musicians of the 20th century, creating avant-garde jazz years before its time. Sun Ra's compositions and arrangements will be accompanied by stories and projected imagery depicting his fascination with space and ancient civilizations, led by Egypt expert Lawrence Berman.
