Here is the two-week look ahead for summer work on the St. Botolph Building as of May 28, 2014:
DUE TO CONSTRUCTION, THE OFFICE OF STUDENT SERVICES WILL BE CLOSED MAY 29 AND 30. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE. WE HOPE TO REOPEN ON MONDAY, JUNE 2.
The good news is that it will not be necessary to close the entire third floor of the St. Botolph Building for the summer. Only room 315 will be shut for the summer. Other rooms on that floor and throughout the building will be closed for a day or two at different stages of the work to install and then to test fire protection systems.
TODAY AND TOMORROW, MAY 28—29, THERE WILL BE NOISE PRODUCED BY DRILLING AND CUTTING AT THE ROOF AND THIRD FLOOR. THIS CUTTING WILL CONTINUE DOWN TO THE LOWER FLOORS IN SUBSEQUENT DAYS.
Also during this period, work will begin on window infills on the façade that faces the parking lot. Sheetrock will be installed on the inside and masonry on the outside. The work will begin on the third floor and proceed to the lower levels. The ground floor windows will be not be blocked-in this year. These infills will be permanent since they will abut the new SLPC.
Surveying and prep work will begin for the installation of a 4” interior pipe or riser that will carry water for the new sprinkler systems from the ground floor up to the third floor. The construction crew will determine which stairwell on the ground-floor hallway of St. Botolph is the better place to locate this pipe. Once the pipe is installed, branches will feed off at each floor.
Adjacent to this 4” pipe will be a new conduit for fire alarm cabling. This will power the horns and strobes for the fire protection system.
